Braces
Straight teeth are easier to clean, kinder to your jaw and nice to smile with. Dr. Ed uses the Tip-Edge system, which moves teeth with light forces.
Why straighten teeth
Straight teeth are easier to brush and floss, which means healthier gums. Correcting an overbite or underbite can ease jaw strain and uneven wear. And for many people, a straighter smile simply feels good.
The Tip-Edge system
Tip-Edge uses traditional brackets with light wires. Its bracket design lets teeth tip and then upright as they move, using gentle forces. Dr. Ed has completed postgraduate training in the technique.
What treatment looks like
Before braces. A checkup and cleaning, and any fillings taken care of first. X-rays help Dr. Ed plan how each tooth will move. Sometimes small spacers go between the back teeth a week ahead.
Getting braces on. Plan on 90 minutes to two hours. Brush and floss well before you come in. Brackets are bonded to each tooth, and the wire is threaded through and adjusted.
Adjustments. About once a month, for 15 to 20 minutes, to check progress and adjust the wire.
After. When the braces come off, you wear a retainer to keep your teeth from drifting back. Dr. Ed tells you how long.
Questions people ask us
How long will I wear braces?
Most people finish in six months to two years. Dr. Ed gives you an estimate for your teeth at the start, and tells you if things are taking longer.
Do braces hurt?
Teeth feel sore for a few days after braces go on and after some adjustments. The light forces of the Tip-Edge system help keep that to a minimum.
What can I eat with braces?
Most foods, cut into smaller bites. Avoid very hard or sticky things like nuts, hard candy and caramel, and go easy on sugary drinks.
